DIAGNOSTIC TESTING -
Our
Director of Studies has designed a new diagnostic test
which we believe to be one of the most thorough on the
market. It involves: A grammar placement test, a listening
comprehension test designed for different levels of
competence, a speaking activity which will be recorded
as a benchmark to quality fluency progress throughout
the course and a PERSONAL STUDY PLAN which identifies
the trainee's specific objectives, learning style and
the relative emphasis to be given to the four skills.
Each student will now receive their own personal cassette
to record parts of the course in addition to the Personal
Language File to record written progress.
For
professional English courses we also have a PERSONAL
COURSE PLANNER where the trainee helps identify specialist
vocabulary or areas to be covered on the course in advance
of arrival.
ENGLISH FOR PRESENTATIONS: Don't be Shy!
We
offer the ideal situation to practise presentations:
in front of a professional trainer who can give you
undivided attention to help you script, prepare and
then deliver your presentation. We can help you develop
and make full and effective use of your voice, improve
your accent, and build and win the all-important confidence
on which successful speaking depends. Our courses cover
communication skills, body language, use of visuals,
pronunciation, intonation and accent. Preparation and
delivery are the keys to this one week course. Here
are some presentation tips.
10 Presentation Scripting Tips:
- Always assume
the technology you plan to deliver your presentation
with, will fail - if the speech doesn't stand up on
its own then the script simply isn't good enough
- Get clear in your
mind what you're going to say and how you're going
to say it
- Keep your presentation
concise. Limit your speech to 2000 words, approximately
20 minutes of speaking time
- A speech is a progression. Start the structure by planning a beginning, middle and end and make sure you develop themes and links between sections
- Allow time for questions and answers and anticipate what they could be.
- Use punchy sentences and don't use unnecessary jargon
- Beware of jokes
- Practise
reading out your script - what looks good on paper
doesn't always work when spoken aloud
- Imagery such as metaphors can be very effective
- Check spelling on all slides
LEGAL ENGLISH
We
have several teachers registered with us who have first
hand legal experience and who hold a degree in Law.
Law is a booming global business, particularly corporate
law. Also we can run courses in English through the
medium of the English Legal System, involving trips
to the law courts when in session. We use materials
which can help the trainee cover the key areas for gaining
competence in speaking English in this area of speciality.
